Melanie Younis
Principal
Melanie was admitted to practice in April, 2007 and graduated Deakin University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts with distinction.
After a few years of working in commercial litigation, Melanie commenced working in the Children’s Court jurisdiction in 2010 and since that time has dedicated her career to assisting children, parents and carers in the Children’s Court.
Melanie has a down to earth and empathetic way of communicating with her clients and is an experienced advocate. Melanie is well regarded for her strategic advice and measured approach to case management.
Melanie has been an accredited specialist in Children’s Law with the Law Institute of Victoria since 2012. She is on the Victoria Legal Aid panel for child protection, family violence and summary crime (Youth Crime) matters.

Laura McDonough
Senior Associate
Laura was admitted to practice in August 2018 after graduating from Monash University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Law (with Honours) and Bachelor of Arts.
Although Laura initially worked in both Family Law and the Children’s Court jurisdiction upon her admission to practice, she has worked exclusively in the Children’s Court jurisdiction since 2021.
Laura is a dedicated and compassionate lawyer, and is committed to representing children and parents involved in the Child Protection system in a manner which is both empathetic and effective. With a strong passion for advocacy, Laura is able to efficiently assist her clients to navigate the complex Child Protection system.
Laura is on the Victoria Legal Aid panel for Child Protection and Intervention Order matters.
